Community > Community Involvement

Through its ‘good neighbour’ policy, the company focuses on a process of consultation with neighbouring property owners and the residents and stakeholders in the communities in which it operates.

Great Southern's managers and employees proactively consult with and inform their neighbours and other members of the community, where appropriate, about any major property establishment and maintenance work being carried out.

The company has developed a sophisticated database which assists in providing information on the types of land use adjacent to its properties. This database helps to guide Great Southern in its activities to minimise impact on other operators, and is also used to keep neighbouring property owners informed of any operational activities which may be relevant to them. The database, known as ForMS (short for Forestry Management System) has been honoured by industry awards including the WA Industry and Export Awards for its excellence in Engineering and Technology.

The company also undertakes extensive feasibility studies and consultation prior to embarking on any major infrastructure or transport-related project.  In each instance, Great Southern is committed to exploring the best options for all its stakeholders before commencing any work on the development of facilities or infrastructure for the export or haulage of its commodities.
